So, we all know that this time of year we kind of open ourselves and by that I mean we kind of turn a blind eye to our healthy eating plan that we worked so hard at during the first 11 months of the year. In fact, for some, it may have started all the way back to this past New Year’s Eve resolutions. Well, while this time of year can strain our commitments to eating healthy, we can still keep ourselves in check by practicing a little moderation in everything that we put into our mouths. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that we might have made 2 or even 3 trips to that buffet table or worse, the dessert bar. And may have washed everything down with a nice sweet drink.
But you need to look at how far you have come during the course of the year!
You’ve adopted healthier eating habits. You’re now aware of what and how much you are eating and have chosen to up your diet with more whole grain foods, lean protein and the right combination of good carbs like dark beans, brown rice, sweet potatoes and such. And the kicker is that you swapped that large size dinner plate for a sandwich plate so while you’re still getting a variety of foods on your plate your portion size has gone down considerably.
On top of that you’re exercising more, or at least you’re supposed to be exercising more. But right now, whether you know it or not you have an ace up your sleeve. That’s right, an ace called shopping. Now for our intents and purposes, we don’t mean just online shopping. Although since we are part of an online community of stores, our favorite is PedometersUSA.com which we hope you visit and purchase from our great variety of health/fitness products.
What we mean is at this time of the year, the retail stores are stocked full, literally, with a variety of items that may just find their way into your families’ stockings. And the best way to see these special items is to leave the car at the far end of the parking lot and walk a distance to and fro. From each shop that may just hold that special gift, just waiting to jump into your holiday shopping bag.
And while you’re going about it, make sure that you haven’t forgotten that magical pedometer. You know the one, that little accurate device that keeps count of all those steps you’re taking during your busy day of work, home chores and now, holiday shopping! One that fits the bill, in our way of thinking is the Omron Alvita Ultimate Pedometer The Alvita accurately counts your steps, aerobic steps, (if you’re walking in a hurry), distance, and calories your burning as your shopping for your kids and looking for that special gift for uncle Bob! Its small but sleek design allows you to stow it in your pocket or purse and still get an accurate step count, while also offering the traditional option of wearing it on your hip with the enclosed holder.
So to sum it up, from Thanksgiving afternoon, when you’re feeling itchy after consuming all that holiday fare, right up until that jolly old man comes down your chimney, your going to be heading out to the mall, shopping center or just taking a stroll downtown to see what kind of special holiday gifts await your hard earned dollars, you will be walking. Yes, Walking your way to shedding those calories you just put on at that festive meal.
And then take that new attitude with you for the next 30 days till the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve. To get out there and walk, walk, walk while you shop, shop, shop your way to making this holiday season one that you can look back on with a feeling of accomplishment. And feel pretty good about yourself that you shed some pounds while you shopped till you dropped.
Happy Walking, and Happy Shopping, from the gang here at PedometersUSA.com!
